FAQs

Got questions? We've got answers! From registration and fundraising to draft night and game play.

Registration

How much does it cost to participate?

add remove

The registration fee is $350* per individual.

This covers the cost of your participation in:

  • Draft Night, including food & drinks**
  • Tournament play, including ice times, personalized jerseys, sock tape, hockey tape and hydrating drinks
  • Player lounge food & drinks

*Because the registration cost represents tangible value received, CRA regulations do not allow us to issue a tax receipt for the fee.

**Note that teams that do not achieve the $25k minimum fundraising total by the fundraising deadline are ineligible to attend Draft Night and will not be able to select an NHL Alumni.

How many players can be on a team?

add remove

There is a maximum of 17 individuals permitted on a team roster.

This includes your goalie, skaters and any non-playing team members (ie coaches & managers).

Every year, teams are given a deadline to reach a minimum of 10 registered individuals (non-playing members included).

This deadline allows us to ensure that rosters are large enough to support the fundraising required to participate.

After this deadline, teams will be filled with waitlisted individuals.

Who can register?

add remove

Due to overwhelming interest, the tournament is by invitation only.

Teams who have met the fundraising minimum from the year before are invited back.

In the meantime, new individuals and teams can join our waitlist.

If space becomes available for a new team (or if teams are looking to fill their rosters), we will reach out to our waitlist.

Is there a minimum age?

add remove

Players and non-playing team members (ie. coaches and managers) must be at least 19 years of age.

Fundraising

How much is each team expected to fundraise?

add remove

Teams must raise a minimum of $25,000.

Funds raised from the event support Canucks Autism Network (CAN) program and training initiatives.

The $25,000 team minimum works out to about $1,500 per player (assuming a 17 player roster).

What happens if my team doesn't raise the minimum?

add remove

Teams that do not raise the minimum required amount by the fundraising deadline are still eligible to play in the tournament.

However, they will not be able to attend Draft Night, and will not have any NHL Alumni on their team at the tournament.

Eligibility for future tournaments may also be impacted at the discretion of event organizers.

When is the fundraising deadline?

add remove

The fundraising deadline is typically two days before Draft Night.

This gives us enough time to finalize the fundraising standings and set the draft order.

Stay tuned for the exact deadline in 2026.

Tournament Play

How many games does each team get?

add remove

Teams will play three games each over the course of the two-day tournament.

Our top 20 fundraisers (20 skaters & 2 goalies) will also be invited to participate in the All-Star Game.

Which NHL Alumni are participating?

add remove

Visit our NHL Alumni webpage to see which players are confirmed!

Each team will draft one NHL Alumni onto their roster for the weekend. Teams will draft NHL Alumni in the order of their final fundraising rankings.

What is the level of skill in the tournament?

add remove

The tournament features a wide range of skill levels.

Each player is asked to provide their skill level and age upon registration.

This allows us to assess each team's overall skill level and group teams together accordingly.

Spectators

I'm not playing, but can I come and watch the games?

add remove

Yes! Spectator admission is by donation.

Info on which NHL Alumni are playing on which team will be visible on the Draft Board in the main entrance.

I'm not playing, but can I come to Draft Night?

add remove

Draft Night is closed to the public.

It is an exclusive event for registered players, coaches & sponsors.
