CAN Pro-Am Player Fundraising Page (Ryan Newman)
The 2021 Canucks Autism Network (CAN) Pro-Am (Oct. 22-24) will be my third year as a participant.
One of the many great moments of last years event was playing alongside two of the greatest players and people; to ever play for the Vancouver Canucks, Henrik and Daniel Sedin. A memory that will last a lifetime and I was able to share with my children. With each year, the CAN Pro-Am experience has been taken to a new level.
To all of you who have contributed the past two years, Thank you! Your generosity does not go unnoticed. I am humbled by your kindness and honoured to have donated approximately $35,000 to the Canucks Autism Network.
My purpose for taking part in this event is simple; I love the game of hockey and I am passionate about being part of a community that helps others. By raising money for CAN, programs for families and children living with Autism are funded. While doing so, I get to enjoy the game I love with family, friends and some of the best to have played the game.
Like many Canadian kids, I grew up playing and loving the game of hockey. Early morning practices, neighborhood street hockey games and Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday nights; provided me with many fond memories that shaped my love for the game.
This tournament has provided me the opportunity to help put together the Pacific Autism Family Network (PAFN) Stars. Our team consists of friends and family who share a love for the game and are motivated to reaching our fundraising goals.
For me, taking part in the CAN Pro-Am holds special meaning. At the age of three, my soon to be eleven-year-old nephew Mikael, was diagnosed with Autism. Mikael’s parents do an incredible job of providing the love, support and experiences made possible by the likes of the Pacific Autism Family Network and Canucks Autism Network.
Some of the demands placed on a family living with Autism, include immense financial strain, countless hours of research to understand their child’s needs, finding available community resources and endless hours of advocating for their child.
With a team goal of $20,000, we have our work cut out for us, but with your support, I know we will make and surpass our goal.
